While en route, Battalion 1 was updated to new information that there was report of a vehicle on fire under the structure. Once on scene, companies found several vehicles fully involved in the parking area under a 36-unit, wood framed, condominium complex. A quick interior attack was commenced into the garage area, while several companies operated on the floors above in an aggressive primary search of the complex. It appeared that all of the residents had escaped the fire safely, but the fire had already started to spread into the upper floors. Firefighters in the parking garage were soon after pushed out due to untenable conditions. The fire would spread throughout the whole structure before being put under control several hours later. In the end, over 100 people were left homeless.

Ansonia, CT - At approximately 7:45am on August 12, 2015, Ansonia Fire Marshal Ralph Tingley was flagged down by a citizen while driving up Finney Street. Upon investigation, he found a large 1-story ranch-style house at 2 Greenfield Drive with smoke showing from the ridge vent. He called on the radio for an assignment and the fire appeared to be a working kitchen fire extending down a hall and also into the attic. The Ansonia Fire Department quickly arrived on scene and after and aggressive interior attack, they had the fire knocked down shortly thereafter.   Two residents and their two dogs were home at the time of the blaze (an elderly mother and her adult son).
It was reported that the son received burns removing his mother and dog from the home and that everybody was doing well later that afternoon. Photo by Keith Muratori

WATERBURY, CT - At approximately 9:30pm on August 13, 2015, the Waterbury Fire Department was dispatched to the vacant Bristol Babcock Factory located on Bristol Street along the Naugatuck River. The heavy timber construction building was the scene of previous fires and has been vacant for over 20 years. Due to it’s condition, firefighters were forced to take a defensive stance on the fire and attack it from the exterior. Firefighting operations proved difficult due to it’s location right in the middle of the approximately 500,000 acre property. The fire was mostly contained by the following afternoon, but companies would remain on scene dousing difficult to reach hot spots for days., Keith Muratori Click on the photo to see the Drone Video

SHELTON, CT – At approximately 8:00pm on January 18, 2015, the Shelton Fire Department was dispatched to 143 Indian Well Road for a reported house fire. First arriving units found a heavily involved 1-story home in what is known as the Maples community along the Housatonic River. Most of the fire was showing from the rear of the structure but was quickly consuming the home. After a quick exterior attack to knock down the heavy fire, members entered the structure with an attack line to complete fire suppression as well as perform a primary search. All occupants were out of the house at the time of the blaze except for the family dog, Harley, who was later located in a rear room of the home in his crate. Unfortunately, he did not make it due to the crate being locked. The fire caused minor damage to both the B and D exposures and was reported to have been caused accidently by discarded ashes from a wood stove. A GoFundMe page has been opened as a Fire Relief Fund for the homeowner and can be found here if you would like to donate:  http://www.gofundme.com/maplesfirefund For more photos by Keith Muratori click on the photo

WATERBURY, CT - Shortly after noon on February 18, 2015, the Waterbury Fire Department was dispatched to 990 Meriden Road for a commercial building fire. First units on scene found heavy fire at A-1 Storage. This complex is a storage facility that encompasses 5 buildings. The largest of the 5 was the one involved in fire. Operations quickly went defensive due to concerns of propane tanks and ammunition. The fire escalated to a 2nd alarm and 118 units were destroyed. The drone that provided the footage and photos of this fire was also utilized by incident command to check on the changing conditions of the roof and roof-top units.

11/14/14 New Haven, CT - Companies were dispatched for reported smoke and fire in the area. Upon their arrival they found heavy smoke in the area. A further investigation found a vacant, three story wood frame with heavy smoke and fire showing. Companies assumed a defensive attack using master streams and hand lines. Truck 1 was special called and went to work with their tower ladder darkening down the heavy volume of fire. There were no exposure issues or life hazards. The blaze took about an hour to bring under control. The cause of the fire is under investigation and is being called suspicious.
